Brent Paul Cahoon, August 11, 1960 – September 3, 2018. Competitive even in death, he ‘took the holeshot’ on this one and beat everyone across the line. Serving as a sweep at an enduro race in Union, SC he suffered a fatal heart attack and spent his last moments on this earth holding onto the handlebars of a Gas Gas EC300. Exactly the way he’d want to go—just a couple of decades too soon.
Brent was born in Logan UT to Dick Bingham Cahoon of Payson UT and Pauline Tate Cahoon of Logan UT—the eldest of 6 children. He graduated from Saxonburg HS in Butler PA, attended the Univ of Utah, earning his Associates degree and then moved back to the Midwest, where he exercised his artistic talent in the Chicago area designing and constructing decks (and second house floors and a random assortment of other things). From the day his father purchased the 2 Ossas, 2 Montessas and Hodaka Dirt Squirt, he had motorsindelibly embossed on his mind and heart. If it had a motor, he loved it!
He met his life’s love, Laurie Kasperski, when she caught his eye at a retail store and the rest is history. While often a little rough around the edges (ok-sometimes a lot rough), he never wavered in his love and devotion to Laurie and their two beautiful daughters, Casie Marie (19) and Haley Clare (13).
If there is one word that sums up Brent’s larger-than-life personality, it is passion! He was passionate about everything he did, knew about, worked on or was responsible for.
Brent is survived by his sweet and patient wife, Laurie Kasperski Cahoon, and daughters Casie Marie Cahoon and Hailey Clare Cahoon of Westmont IL. He is also survived by his parents, Dick B and Pauline T Cahoon of Cedar Hills UT, and siblings Bruce David Cahoon (Joni) of Asbury NJ, Mark Alan Cahoon (Diane) of Port Murray NJ, Matthew Leron Cahoon (ChristiAnn) of Elk Ridge UT, Sharon Marie Cahoon-Metzger (Ryan) of Sandy UT and Calvin Dirk Cahoon (Kari) of Payson UT in addition to many nieces, nephews, in-laws, friends, neighbors, fellow motor-lovers and CarbSport aficionados. He was preceded in death by his in-laws, Clarence and Wanda Kasperski.
Viewing will be Friday, September 8th from 3-8 pm and funeral will be Saturday, September 9th at 9:30 am at Chapel Hill Gardens, 17W201 Roosevelt Road, Oak Brook Terrace, Illinois 60181.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made through a GoFundMe page created by Brent’s wife. All proceeds will go towards the education expenses of Brent’s daughters. https://www.gofundme.com/cahoon-children-educational-fund
